What is a data switch?

A data switch (or network switch) connects multiple computers and other devices, such as printers, fax machines, and photocopiers to a single network. When connected, devices are able to exchange mail and other messages with each other. Network switches also allow client computers to store files on a file server.

How will a data switch benefit me?

Data switches allow for the availability of the full gigabit of bandwidth for each connection. This means that network performance remains unaffected by multiple devices working on the same switch. Data switches are therefore able to send and receive data at the same time, unlike hubs.
